135 acre castle like compound of 27 buildings opened in 1885, housing 50,000 patients, 20,000 employees, accepted 200,000 visitors before closing in 1989. Former State Mental Hospital in Traverse City, Michigan; now serves as condos and offices, currently known as Traverse City Commons. If Walls Could Talk is a graphite drawing on a 6′ x 4′ canvas of the former State Hospital in Traverse City, Michigan (Building 50).
